We're all capable of criticism and know it. We all feel comfortable forming opinions about the work of others and pointing out its flaws. We also often feel deficient in our ability to create, but that's just because we practice one more than the other.
Entrepreneur, author, and public speaker Seth Godin explains:
I don't think the shortage of artists has much to do with the innate ability to create or initiate. I think it has to do with believing that it's possible and acceptable for you to do it. We've only had these particular doors open wide for a decade or so, and most people have been brainwashed into believing that their job is to copyedit the world, not to design it.
Catching mistakes and criticizing errors doesn't have to be your life's work. When you have an inkling to tear something apart, consider what you could make instead.
